What we collect
When you use PageMates we collect your first name, email address, reading progress, club activity, chat messages, and book ratings. This data is stored securely on our servers powered by Supabase (hosted on AWS).
How we use your data
We use your data to run your book clubs, match you with other readers, and remember your reading progress. We also analyse anonymised, aggregated reading trends — such as which books are popular, average reading pace, and completion rates — to provide insights to publishers and authors. This analysis never identifies you personally.
Publishers & third parties
We may share anonymised, aggregated reading insights with publishers and authors. For example: how many readers are currently reading a book, what chapter readers tend to stop at, and overall ratings. We will never sell your name, email, chat messages, or any data that identifies you personally to any third party.
Google Books APIBook searches and information are powered by the Google Books API. When you search for a book, your query is sent to Google. Google's own
Privacy Policy applies to that data.
Other book sources
Searches also query Open Library, Crossref, and Apple Books. Each service has its own privacy policy governing how they handle search queries.
Data storage & security
Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure hosted on AWS servers. Supabase is SOC 2 compliant and your data is encrypted at rest and in transit. We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time.
Your rightsDepending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. This includes rights under GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA (California), and similar laws globally. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at

Cookies & local storage
We use browser localStorage to keep you logged in between sessions. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising cookies.
No ads
PageMates contains no advertising and we do not share your data with ad networks.
Local reader matching
When creating a new book club, PageMates gives you the option to meet your club mates in person at a local coffee shop. If you choose this option, we store your approximate location on our servers to find readers within 30 miles of you. Your exact location is never stored or shared with other users — only approximate distance is shown. You can choose online only at any time and your location data will not be stored.
Children
PageMates is not directed at children under 13. If you are under 13 please do not use this service. If we become aware that a child under 13 has created an account we will delete their data immediately.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of PageMates after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
